Parking in Wyberton on Match Days

by Jason Stevenson on 8 April, 2023

Well here we are again talking about match days, while all of you for sure agree. Match day parking in Wyberton is a nightmare, but those in both borough and county council seem to take no interest. While we all would agree we want the team to have success, the impact should not be on the residents. Neil Kempster and David Newton are willing to build your homes and take your money and forget about you. But those who live here all have to put up with this same issue.

The final stages of Boston United stadium should be starting in the next month or so but what we can not have is more parking issues. I have Requested time and again to review the parking with a view to setting up an Event restriction zone. Under Lincolnshire county council policy they are responsible for on-street parking but there is nothing to state about an event restriction zone. This seems like the havoc caused to residents is not of concern to anyone, but it is to all of us.

If I am elected, I will attempt to force a review and implementation on a Event Restriction Zone and push hard for it to be implemented as soon as possible. Many will say it will push the parking else where when in fact the parking could be resolved by creating increasing match day tickets by £1 to subsidise the buses totally and getting the cars to park in the town, increasing footfall to the town helping out small independent businesses and easing the affect on the surrounding areas. Other areas that could be used are places like the princess royal sports arena.

In late 2022, I met with a few members of the Lincolnshire highways area team and presented them with several ideas on solving the parking. They have gone away to discuss some of the ideas that included marking the bus stop and appropriate road markings. But this will still not be enough they had seen the images from the drone that had shown the parking and as such it is. I will not suggest what some councillors say which is “if you now you need to get out go out before and only return after”.

This is not good enough for anyone, it has to be a solution for all. Many of these that are standing are focused on one thing that is Boston, They have little to no experience within a public body. I am a parish councillor with knowledge scope and experience. My commitment is to both Wyberton and Boston not one area.

From experience, This is often set up by the local authority, with coordination between the clubs fan groups, residents and transport providers. making sure that on the day of the event there is more frequent services available having extra taxis on service and low use car parking sites for car parking with the additional deployment of these services issued there.
