Communication where it all starts

by Jason Stevenson on 22 June, 2022

So one of my first challenges as a councillor in the parish is that the communication is how I would say below adequate. Why does this matter at all well the efforts of the council can be in vain, if the there is no clear way to get out what the council has done is doing and will be doing.

I like the fact that communication is done in many forms from an A4 or A5 leaflet to a simple microblog or bigger social media or even a blog like this. So why is the communication important to me, the parish has some wonderful facilities that I feel are under utilised and may not been known for what they are doing.

This Summer (2022), the 70th year of the reign of Queen Elizebeth II saw a large leaflet drop for much of Wyberton on what events was happening in Wyberton, yet it was individuals posting on Facebook on what was happening in many of the community groups. This shows a strong community focus on what’s happening but unless the information is there, nothing can be communicated.

My focus for the next few months will be to fix the digital communication for the parish from Facebook to email and the website. Now there is nothing wrong with the parish website it is need of a lot of TLC much like a digital version of the repair shop on BBC.

Once this has been complete then, I will be focusing on the delivery of a newsletter for the parish showing the latest functions and events for all across the parish. This will not be an overnight job it will however involve a large number of participants, from people who can deliver and who can design to people who help decided what goes into the news letter.

But all of this can be achieved if the public can get involved and work with us on communicating and help us form a committee with you on board. The hardest message to get across is we are hear to listen to you.
